Utah's Premier Private Ballroom Studio
"The world on your shoulders.
The story in your bones."
Every movement you make is a sentence. Every step, a word. The floor is your page — and when you dance at Atlas, you learn to write something true.
We don't train bodies. We train storytellers. The goal is never to impress a judge. It's to make them feel something they can't explain — a truth communicated through your fingertips, your spine, the weight of your feet on the floor.
That kind of dancing lives in your whole body. And it takes everything you've got.
"You don't leave anything behind when you step on that floor. Your heart goes down first. The rest follows."— Dexter Ellis, Atlas Dance
Founder & Head Coach, Atlas Dance
Dexter Ellis has spent his life learning what it means to carry something — in dance, in competition, and in the overhead lifts that have become his signature: explosive, precise, and impossibly graceful.
A graduate of Brigham Young University with a degree in dance and a minor in psychology, Dexter brings a rare dual fluency to coaching. He understands not only how the body moves, but how the mind connects to it — how young dancers build confidence, process pressure, and develop the mental architecture that separates good from exceptional.
His passion for working with high school dancers is rooted in that psychology background. He knows the difference between a coach who pushes and one who builds. Dexter does both — demanding your best while giving you the foundation to deliver it.
He was trained under Angela Williams, widely considered the premier ballroom coach in the country for over two decades. Her influence runs through everything Dexter teaches — the standards, the discipline, and the deep belief that dance is worth doing perfectly.
Every program at Atlas is designed around one goal: to make you a dancer who tells a story no one can ignore.
One-on-one time with Dexter, built entirely around you. Your technique, your story, your growth. This is where the real breakthroughs happen.
The heartbeat of Atlas Dance. Formation training builds precision, synchrony, and the ability to tell a story together — a skill that changes how you dance forever.
For dancers who want to take it to the floor — at the regional level and beyond. The destination is BYU Nationals. The journey starts here.
Dexter believes in you before you believe in yourself. That belief is what makes the standard so high — not cruelty, not ego, but trust.
He will push you past what's comfortable. He will expect more than you think you have. And he will be right there, every step of the way, with the tools to help you deliver it.
Atlas is not for dancers who want to be comfortable. It's for dancers who want to be extraordinary.
Dexter's psychology background informs everything. You'll train your brain and your body simultaneously — because that's where artistry actually lives.
Healthy, encouraging coaching that never confuses kindness with softness. You will be challenged and supported in equal measure.
Trained under Angela Williams — the best coach in the country, period — Dexter teaches with depth and precision rooted in decades of expertise.
Technique is the vehicle. The story is the destination. Every drill, every correction, every rep is in service of a performance that moves people.
Atlas Dance is built around a competitive vision: to develop Utah high school dancers who can walk into a national competition and command the floor.
Dexter knows that arena intimately. As a member of the Provo High Varsity Formation Team, he helped take his team to the state championship three times — and to second place at nationals. He's walked that floor. Now he'll teach you how to own it.
The BYU Nationals is the pinnacle of high school ballroom competition in Utah. Every decision made at Atlas — every rehearsal, every correction, every late-night run-through — points toward that stage.
Atlas Dance is a private studio — not a chain, not a school program. This is a focused environment built for a small group of serious students who want more than their school class can offer.
Small by design. Personal by necessity. Every student who walks through this door gets Dexter's full attention, full investment, and full belief in their potential.
